After a routine Factory Reset
I was looking over and re-setting Utility up once again.
Then I proceeded to Sequencer Setup
arriving at MIDI Filter.

My question is not an important one as it has never been a ‘functional’ issue.
The MIDI Filter ‘IN’ and ‘OUT’
after a Factory Reset
has only one box preselected… Channel Aftertouch IN is checked only.
---
My Question: Is there a place I can find the explanations of the result of checking and unchecking these boxes?

I understand that my misunderstanding of these filters in general
is undergoing an education as we speak,
but it’s the in’s and the out’s relating to the XF I guess is what I’m needing to learn about as it will be the most difficult to find.
And, please pardon if I’ve overlooked this explanation in the reference cd.

All facts and opinions are most welcome.
And we thank you in advance…
Marc

Basically, if you check one of the boxes, that particular category of MIDI data will be filtered out (not recorded).

I think the big picture of the topic is to keep a lot of unnecessary MIDI data from clogging up the sequencer.

Aftertouch is filtered out by default because it is such a MIDI event hog, and is really not needed...unless you specifically need it!

There are other events that can be filtered out as required, with the end result not recording a lot of stuff you don’t need.

EDIT: See page 232 of the Motif XF Reference Manual for the rules and routing of the MIDI filter.

Hello.
Well that is typically the reasoning behind my routine Factory Resets.
I tend to trust, with verification, preselections from a manufacturer I trust.

Is there another place I could find another explanation of these filters?
I’m stopping strangers on the street and
asking that same question! :-)
.... and have compiled quite a list about Midi Filters.
The results learned will of course help with the selections.

Appreciation your way....

EDIT: See page 232 of the Motif XF Reference Manual for the rules and routing of the MIDI filter.

I just re-read your post, thanks.

edit: it’s my ability for hearing/listening that’s what I rely upon the most.
I think what I’m looking for is a place that can offer audio examples of the affects of a midi filter with respect to audio end result.
Hell, I don’t want much do I ? :-)

... not a problem if you got nothing for this one!
