I have a setlist app on my iPad (I happen to use OnSong, but I think all of the alternatives have the ability to do this). I am connected from the iPad to the MOXF8 via USB.

When I call up a song on the iPad setlist app, I have 2 MIDI program changes that are automatically set. The first, on MIDI Channel 1, selects the preset voice on the MOXF8. The second PC event, on MIDI Channel 2, updates Mainstage on my computer to select the appropriate patch.

The problem is, I can not use the MOXF8 to play any notes. If I switch to MIDI mode on the MOXF8, I can play the MOXF8 and trigger the Mainstage sounds.

What I want (and what I’ve seen David Rosenthal of the Billy Joel band do) is for the iPad to update the MOXF8 and Mainstage with the correct sounds for the song I select, and also to be able to play the MOXF8 as a controller for the mainstage instruments without having to change modes.

Is this a settings issue? An equipment one? I tried using a USB-MIDI adapter out of the iPad so that everything could run in MIDI mode, but that didn’t work. Might a MIDI merge box help?

I’m stumped and very frustrated. Thanks in advance for your advice.
