Hello,

Can i use an Yamaha adapter PA-3B for my moxf 8. In the user manuel i read PA-150.

I use now not an original but saw an original yamaha on a marketplace.

No!

The output voltage and polarity is the same (12V DC, center positive) for both units, but the PA-3B only has a rated output current of 700 mA, which is way too low. If the MOXF starts at all, it may not be stable. The PA-150B is rated for 1500 mA (1,5 A), so look for an adapter of that capacity or more.

Hello Henry,

Thank you for your answer. I also thought that the output of 700 mA is too low for my MOXF8. I’m going to buy a 1500mA for the MOXF8

But strange for the moxf6 (which I bought used) I got a 700mA. Does he have to go to 1500mA?

A PSU’s rated output tells us how much current it can deliver continously and safely, without e.g. overheating in test conditions. Most PSUs will deliver more than their rated output when connected to equipment that draw more power. When they do, however, heat starts to build up, and so does the risk of damage.

I believe the MOXF6 and MOXF8 both used the same adapter, and both are listed as consuming 13 Watts of power (which calculates to about 1100 mA @ 12V). This is probably their maximum power consumption, which typically peaks at startup. The steady-state power consumption is probably a bit lower than 13W, but we don’t know extactly how much.

With the MOXF6/8, a PSU rated for 700 mA will - at least periodically - be operating far outside of its specifications. This is going to shorten its lifespan. If you continue to use it, please keep an eye on its temperature!

Assuming that you live in an area with 220V AC wall outlets, and that your suggested PSU has the correct output connector and polarity, then yes, it should work.
