There are no real silver linings here. This is an unmitigated and unprecedented disaster for humanity and there’s no getting around it. All we can do is cope, hope and act as responsibly as we can while we do.

There is no physical Motifator shop to close or open. The doorbell doesn’t ring crisply in your ear as you step into our world; greeted by the sound of ‘Jump’ bleeding through the headphones as someone pounds on a MOXF in the corner. So, if you’re homeward bound (in either or both senses), now is the time to make the best of and with what you have. For now, dreams of a new synth to check out at Guitar Center will have to be put on hold. Superbooth, Frankfurt Musik Messe, Synthplex have all been cancelled. Summer NAMM? Highly questionable, though still theoretically on.

As we enter this new world of streaming gigs and on-line education as the only forms of gig or learning experience, people hastily converting lofts into studios, stars strumming acoustic guitars by firesides or flash mobbing old John Lennon tunes, I’m reminded that Motifator went live in late August 2001.

Before the original Motif even hit the stores we were all reeling from another impact and the world, as now, would never be the same again.

We will - or at least some if not most of us will - survive. I received an email from an organization I belong to in the UK this morning that’s been around for 700-odd years. In similarly philosophical tone they said they’d survived “The Black Death, the Plague, the Great Fire of London and two World Wars.” Right. Good point.

The important thing is not to give up and not to lose hope. Playing or recording music makes a wonderful break from CNN or Fox News. So, make time on your Motif or Mo part of your daily therapy.

And if you need to spice things up a little we have lots of fun things in our always-virtual, always open shop that you can pick up for a song! New voices, new sample libraries, new arpeggios, a ton of instructional videos (all on sale until the end of the month) and much more.

Stay safe Mo Bros, Mo’Sis’s and Mo Everyones in Betweens.

Good words Mr. Motif.

Somehow this all will open new opportunities.

And as always music is part of the solution.  Music can help the immune system, and strengthening the immune system is part of the solution to all of this.  Exercise, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, get plenty of rest, burn off as much stress as you can (here’s where music comes in), and stay inside as much as possible.

And take advantage of every day, each day.
