Hi Again,
Firstly, so appreciative that I can turn to this Forum
Where I live there is no-one to talk to about this’ stuff and I am not tech savvy AT ALL ! I need to understand routing and settings and I don’t yet. Any suggestions where I can learn this is appreciated. I find the XS Manual very hard to comprehend and follow

So here we go:

1… Should the setting on the XS in Utility be :
AUTO LOAD setting be ON or Off ?
2...IEEE 1394 Driver be FW or mLAN ?

I need help knowing how to set up my connections so the XS and Cubase are communicating

To recap:
I have Motif XS 8
Cubase 8.5
Firewire 800 to 400 pin to Thunderbolt port on Macbook Pro
UAD Apollo Twin ..not even addressing this yet ...

What Settings do I need to have on the Motif and on Cubase...mostly on Cubase I think ?

Issues :

1...When I open Cubase and I chose the “Recording” template
I chose Yamaha Motif XS 8 with VST Editor

Firstly… Good idea or no ?

I… I can record MIDI on the first track

2...Play audio track and nothing is recorded

Cubase synces with the Motif and these are the settings VST Connections:
Device -
INPUT :  Motif XS AD Input Motif XS 13 and 14 ( why them and not Main L&R;? )
OUTPUT:Motif XS 8 Main L& R

Devices to Device Set Up
MIDI PORT Set up
MIDI in Main and Remote are Active
MIDI OUT XS MIDI Out INACTIVE / Main Active /Remote Active

What should it be ?

1...If I create a New Project and don’t use the template and choose
EMPTY and open an Instrument Track and open VST Instruments to External and add the XS the settings that come up are the same
I can record one Midi thrice but when I go to open a 2nd one and try to sync the XS with Cubase I get PORT OPEN ERROR message and Ports have not Been Properly Set…

2… AUDIO won’t record

I imagine its all simple but I just haven’t gotten it yet ?

I look forward to any help

Cheers

Skybo

1… Should the setting on the XS in Utility be :
AUTO LOAD setting be ON or Off ?

That depends what you want to do. If you Auto Load an “All” file, make sure appropriate Utility settings are saved to it, since it will overwrite what’s stored in the XS.
See http://www.motifator.com/index.php/support/view/motif_xs_auto_load

2...IEEE 1394 Driver be FW or mLAN ?

Use of a recent FW driver with an FW16E or updated mLAN16E2 requires the FW setting. The mLAN16E2 should have firmware version 1.07. See this previous thread http://www.motifator.com/index.php/forum/viewthread/478900/

I’ll leave the Cubase questions to someone who uses that DAW.
