Hello XF users! Just got a new XF7, and am having some difficulties in the arpeggiation department.

I want to record a Trance Vision performance into Cubase.
I’m able to use my MotifES8 as the trigger keyboard, so I record using it in Cubase routed to the XF7 midi in - via USB, thus avoiding the arpeggio bottleneck.

So then I recorded the individual sysex commands for Arps 1 to 5.
They appear in Cubase as [F0,43,10,7F,13,30,30,00,00~04,F7]

Also, the Main Arp On/Off switch.
[F0,43,10,7F,13,30,30,03,00~01,F7]

All good so far…

However, on replay in Cubase, there is no response to these messages from the XF7. I’ve tested the output from Cubase with a Midi monitor, and the messages are being transmitted. Alas, the XF7 does not respond, either via MIDI or USB.

Any thoughts?

EDIT:  just tried sending the Performance part faders sysex messages, and they are working…
Seems that the switches are not....

It appears you’ve captured the SysEx as it’s transmitted from Port 4. Such messages have the fifth byte set to ”13”. If you change that Model ID byte to ”12” instead, the XF should recognize the messages.

Thanks so much 5pin! That works!

Is getting sysex via Port4 standard on the USB?
If I had to edit a sysex stream, it would get quite tedious!!

Thanx again!

See MIDI channels and MIDI ports on page 57 of the XF Owner’s Manual.

For an XF7, the ports typically are identified in software as MOTIF XF7-1 through MOTIF XF7-4. Careful setup of the ports in computer applications should minimize or eliminate the need to edit the SysEx.
