Hi thanks in advance.

The amount of voices is potentially staggering. It would be vastly superior to use a computer monitor (or laptop) to organize and visually see all your voices.

What are some of better ways to accomplish this?

Suggested software? Ideas? Would love as many as you can give.

(I have been able to connect to my local network, and just got the firewire adapter if that helps)

Motif XF

Much appreciated!

Thank you cmayhle! I am reading the manuals now. Love these.

What is the recommended way to connect my laptop and these softwares to the Motif? USB? Firewire, Midi, ethernet?

Any one else have any librarian software or suggestions?

thanks!!

Eric

The Motif XF communicates with your computer via MIDI over USB.

Go to This Page, and select the appropriate USB-MIDI Driver download...Mac, WIN 32 bit, WIN 64 bit.

You will find a discussion of the XF-->Computer connection on page 56 of the Motif XF Owner’s Manual.

Welcome to the forum Eric.  As Cmayhle suggested, the Melas Software suite is worth it’s minimal cost, and John Melas offers excellent support for his products.

The screen interface for the Total Librarian looks and functions just like Explorer in Windows.  You have a nice visual of all preset and user banks for voices and performances.

If you plan on integrating numerous libraries, then the total suite would be perfect, esp the Waveform Editor.

Good luck

Thank you Richie. I have loaded both and easily connected to my computer thanks to the direction provided by Cmayhle.

I have purchased the total suite, and getting familiar with them. (He throws around the term ‘patches’ pretty loosely and so its not clear whether that is a voice or combination of performances or? )

I am super excited and John Melas has a brilliant product that looks like it will be the cornerstone of my Motif. Whew! Wish I had asked months ago!!

Yamaha Motif 8 Editor and Librarian [...]

The Motif 8 is an original/classic model. The company doesn’t appear to have anything for models beyond the ES - the XS and XF aren’t listed.

EDIT: By the way, do you have the free Motif XF Editor from Yamaha? It and other goodies are available here:

Here’s one useful application of the Yamaha Editor:

Thanks for chiming in 5pinDIN. Your posts are always clear, concise, and thoughtful. Everything I wish mine were!

I am using the librarian suggestions here, and they are all extremely useful.

I am just dealing with a bizarre issue where the Motif XF Editor is coming up on the screen so small you can’t use it. (Lenovo touch screen Laptop/Windows)

I don’t think that is within the scope of this forum, however if you have any ideas, I am definitely listening!

This forum is much appreciated :)

Yes, that’s a known problem on very high res screens.

Oh my! That is SOME workaround LOL. Magnifier. :)

Would you happen to know if this issue was resolved with Windows 10 for high res screens?

(I am thinking of a better solution)

thank you!
