Hello,
I know we already have several Montage vs Motif XF threads,
This thread is not an “Anti-Montage” thread.
01. Missing connections
02. Missing modes
03. Missing features
04. Missing Voices
05. Missing Performances
06. Missing Effects
07. Missing Arpeggios
The XF has 7.881 Arps while the Montage has 10.000.
9 of the (theoretically) new 2119 Aprs have new time signatures:
Feel free to add other points or to correct existing ones. |

Some of these aren’t truly missing; they provide equivalent functionality in a different form. For example, voice and performance modes are combined, so voice mode isn’t really missing, it just no longer requires a separate mode to provide the same functionality (a positive move, in my opinion). Sadly, other features are just plain missing. |

And what about new features, and improvements in the Montage, over the Motif. They should be listed, too! |

What do I do when I load the new Bosendorfer Imperial Grand into flash and then the next available expansion pack and perhaps the 2nd pack and then I’m out of user flash memory space? I’ll have to delete something to use something else in the year 2016. I did fit a bunch of packs on the Tyros5 1GB board but how much user space is this Bos actually going to chew up? |

Hi I guess the usb interface technically replaces the firewire interface (which you have to purchase separately for the motif anyway) so in that regard scores as a win assuming both boards were the same price. I do use the ethernet interface for moving songs etc. back and forth between the motif and the PC so am assuming this is all going to work over the usb connection now ?? The main thing that I’m missing is the DAW remote control ie. control surface features which works very well in the motif but are completely absent from the Montage. |

@Melodialworks:
@Mantra:
Also for the Ethernet port I can imagine that it would have been redundant.
I think the only real communication between the Montage and a PC is MIDI.
And Digital-Out was removed because maybe it’s not used by anyone, except for me.

@Raven I’m pretty sure the Montage can send 16 channels of audio over usb and return 6. In other words the functionality of the firewire interface is now available via usb. From the website :- “Connect MONTAGE to your computer with a single USB cable and capture every nuance of your creativity into your DAW. MONTAGE’s powerful USB driver can send 16 and receive 3 channels of STEREO 24 bit/44.1 kHz digital audio to/from your computer or iOS device (MONTAGE is class compliant, no driver needed!), no other hardware required! The USB connection also features full MIDI support of 16 channels. * MONTAGE supports the sampling rate up to 192 kHz.” |

Here’s the link :- It sends 16 stereo and receives 3 not 6 :-) http://usa.yamaha.com/products/music-production/synthesizers/montage/#tab=feature |

I think 6 meant mono or single channels and the 3 means stereo. I caught that in the demos which went unclarified. |

Any chance that Yamaha is fully aware of the Montage consumer reactions and is poised to update the functionality for a full blown sequencer and perhaps other missing function? They have a track on the pre-sales and they always state the disclaimer that the specifications can change at any moment. They already state the the manual screen shots and illustrations might vary from the actual instrument. There might just be plenty of latitude with this new machine i.e. “back pocket"/"card up sleeve” etc. |

Hi
Firewire on the Motif XS/XF allow 16 bus, it’s not 16 tracks, it’s not 16 stereo bus.
On the montage like Mantra write, you can record 16 stereo bus at 24 bit 44.1 kHz in the same time, it’s better than the FW for total bus numbers.
All of this directly with USB 2.0 without need an option card. So for me, FW is not missing, USB on Montage provide better service. |

Could be that Montage has no RAM (like MOXF), so at least on board sampling might be impossible to provide via “patch”. A simple edit function in the performance sequencer could be possible. Pure speculation from my side… |

It does have 0.25GB of the 2.0GB of high speed flash reserved but that might not be available for sampling. Could part of any of the high speed flash be used for sampling? I don’t know. Yamaha should offer a choice in the amount of flash installed like a laptop. Pay more and double your flash size. How hard could that possibly be? |

It depends on the available address space…
It might even be impossible with the current design. |

The Motif flash has already been doubled to 4GB. The EX5 flash was doubled from 8 to 16 and it’s a dinosaur. It would be a design flaw if that wasn’t a possibility but it’s also not user upgradable like the others. Who knows what Yamaha was thinking but if their thinking we’re going to sell expansion packs/sets etc. to make future profits, why would they stop as low as 1.75GB? |
