Maybe I’m missing a step.

I’m going into a Song, wanting to create a version of it that simply omits the Guitar part. I assume Scene is the perfect method for this. I don’t have to destroy my full mix, but I can quickly call up the Song and make room for someone “sitting in” on the Song.

I hit Store and Scene 1 and create the full mix version. There’s a flash of Mix and Arp saved message and the 1/8 note icon on the Scene 1 button is displayed.

I go to MIX, go to 16 track Mute mode, hit and unlite the track(s) with Guitar, go back to the main menu. Confirm the Guitar is now out of the mix, then press Store and Scene 2.

Same as above, I see flash of message and the 1/8th note icon on Scene 2 button is now displayed. I do this with Drums next, etc.

Do I have to also STORE the whole song each time, before each Scene addition? Cause when I now try the Scenes—either nothing changes or they’re all doing the same Mix or previous Mix. The icons are there, indicating something’s been programmed but the Mute status I thought I programmed is not correct.

Help please.

After saving my file as an All Song, I reloaded it and found it was all messed up. The volumes were at 0. The Pan hard Left. And when I put things back to normal, the sound quality was terrible. Not just tone, but crackling noises even.  So I’m wondering now if this is a bug in software that I’ve never come up against cause I’ve never used Scene.

I did some investigating and I’m wondering if I need to update my firmware?

If so, how do I check to see what version I’m using? I have not idea.

And how do I go about updating?

Press [UTILITY]
Press [JOB]
Read “Firm” from the display.

If you don’t already have OS version 1.02, you can get it here:
http://download.yamaha.com/search/product/?category_id1=16277&category_id2=16381&product_id=1464171
A direct download of the MOX OS Updater V1.02:
http://download.yamaha.com/file/52865

Unzip the file. The installation procedure is in the Readme.
By the way, it says…
This update is applicable to the following version:
MOX6/MOX8 with firmware versions earlier than V1.01

...but it actually means that the 1.02 update is applicable to version 1.01 or earlier.

So I have 1.02.

I just went back to a backup of that All Song file, loaded it, and it sounds fine.

So it’s definitely getting corrupted at some point within the MOX.
