Hello,

I watched some videos on Youtube and started reading the manuals.
Anyway I hope it is ok if I ask a quick question here…

Let’s say I create a pattern whose length is 4 measures - section A.
The pattern consists of 4 Drum tracks/channels, 1 bass, 1 chords and some phrases, for example.
Then I create another pattern which would be section B.
The section B should be the Chorus.
After I let pattern A loop 4 times (to have 16 measures), I decide to switch to section B.
Then it would be interesting to have some kind of fill in/segue effect.
Is this possible?
(E.g. by pressing a fill in button)

An alternative option would be to include a fill in track in section A,
but only to activate when it is needed.
(I would prefer the other option)

Another small question:
When I decide to switch the pattern/section, does the Motif XF do it immediatelly, or does it “wait” until the last beat of the previous pattern/section was played?
Personally, I like the waiting.
Because then I can be sure the timing will be perfect, and I would also have some time to do some preparations (e.g. voice change).

Thank you for any help!

disclaimer: double check anything I say.

that said, as far as I know, there is no fill in button type feature on the Motif XF.
as for Pattern mode, I’ve never used it.
but from reading about it, I’m definitely going with the “wait” manner.

There’s no ‘fill-in’ button as such, no. You can, however, record a fill on an available Pattern Section. If you want a 1 bar fill, then record your fill in Section XXX as something 1-bar in length (Patterns can be set to any length, relatively.)

You could also use, say, the first couple of beats in a Pattern Section ‘as’ a fill, which leads on to the second part of your question.

Changing how fast the Section buttons will respond to your prodding comes under Utility: While you’re in Pattern mode…

Press [UTILITY]
Press [F2] SEQ
Press [SF3] OTHER
“PTN QUANTIZE” controls how quickly changes occur. You can set this to 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, or 1. Setting this to “1” the Section Change will occur at the top of the next measure.

So, you can experiment with the speed of change to suit whatever it is that you are doing.

Hello and thanks for the replies.

OK, this sounds good so far.
I assume there will be many ways to realize it.
(In worst case a PC/tablet with MIDI and DAW like Cubase or probably the Yamaha Studio can help.)

I could also copy section A completely and make something like
section A2, which I would activate after the 12th beat.
Then I have a complete “fill in pattern”, which could be a Pre Chorus for example.

I know what you mean by 1 bar fill in pattern, but I’ve never used such patterns yet, but I can give them a try in the future.
(My Yamaha DJX-II has plenty of these patterns.)

Best regards
