Hi I’m trying to use the MX 49 with Apple Mainstage. I’d like to have some of the performances sound from the keyboard and some sound from Mainstage (macbook pro). I can’t find a place to set midi parameters in the performances (patch no, midi channel, local on or off). Is this not possible? It seems Yamaha may have ignored a primary function of a controller. thanks for the help.

Welcome to the forum. Access to some of the MX functionality is limited via the front panel. You might want to get the MX Performance Editor from http://www.vycromx.com/ |

Local on/off is a global setting. So if you want one Performance to play internal sounds and another to only play external gear then you have to switch this manually in the global menu. MIDI channel is easy...each Performance has all 16 channels, you can select which one the keyboard is currently controlling from the front panel. The exception is if the Performance has a split, then the keyboard always controls MIDI channels 1 and 2. You will have to experiment yourself (I don’t have an MX to try) to see if when selecting a new Performance program change msgs are sent out over MIDI. BTW, I think you can use Mainstage to route MIDI back to the MX so you could possibly stay in Local Off all the time when using it. |
