I have mainly been using my MOXF for live performance. I was wondering if there is a way to ‘record” a drum beat on the sequencer and then play “live” with a voice or performance on top of that.
There is nothing in the manual I see that shows how to do this ( if you can do this??)

Yes, you can certainly do this.

Are you envisioning something similar to when you play a PERFORMANCE, with the drum PART being played by the arpeggiator while you are playing...say...a piano PART along with it?

If you are able to call up and/or create a PERFORMANCE with a drum PART you like and a second PART to play along with it, you are just a short step away from moving the arpeggiated drum PART to the sequencer for future use.

Let us know how familiar you are with PERFORMANCE Mode.  That would probably be the best place to start.

OR...are you talking about actually playing a drum kit PART into a SONG or PATTERN?  You know, like you are actually the drummer and want to play the drums, cymbals, etc. with the MOXF keys themselves as a finished drum “composition” in the sequencer to play along with later?

Let us know more about what you want to do and how familiar you are (or aren’t!) with PERFORMANCE, SONG, and PATTERN Modes.

In addition to using the Performances you can also record up to 16 ‘Sections’ in the Pattern sequencer. The Pattern sequencer loops, automatically. Each Section can be any length you like so you can record a beat or backing of different lengths… 8 bars, 16 bars, a 2 bar breakdown or fill.. and then switch between them in real time. You can ‘also’ play live as these Pattern Sections play, and even switch between several Voices or layers of Voices. There are plenty of written and video tutorials on the Sequencer engine and even if it may take a little time to get wholly comfortable with it, you will, and it’s very powerful.

I am looking at “creating” or recording a simple drum part, like kick drum and snare, have it available to “pull up” and then play a live performance on top of that

Where are the sequencer tutorials?

You will find a load of useful information in these two articles:

Recording Drums to the MOXF Pattern Mode

Drum Track Construction Tools MOXF

Once you get a drum track recorded in a PATTERN (or SONG, but a PATTERN will probably make more sense as the articles explain), you will be able to “call it up” and have up to 15 other VOICES (PARTS) available to play live over it (Hypothetically, as I am pretty sure you don’t have enough digits to do that at once!).

Read through and post back if questions remain.

I’ve been putting the hyperlink word or phrase in bold to make it stand out. I’m not sure it helps, but it probably doesn’t hurt.

Using cmayhle‘s previous post as an example:
