I want to record digital audio , I have an optical audio cable from motif optical out to vs 1824 optical in.I need the tempo and control commands to sync up, so when I hit record the motif will play and the vs1824 will record. How is this done? Thank you for reading . What I need is the utility settings. Which should be master and which should be slave? Any help is greatly appreciated . Thank you again.

To synchronize the two units you’ll need a MIDI cable...MIDI out from the Roland to MIDI in of the Motif.

Set the Motif to slave to external MIDI clock (look in the manual on p.258):

Utility -> [F5]-[SF3] MIDI Sync = MIDI

If the Roland does not send MIDI clock and sequencer commands by default you’ll need to enable that....check it’s manual.
