Oh Man!
That’s Massive! :)

Going off on this tangent makes recall of the late 70’s when YES took a very large Orchestra on their tour, mic-ing each instrument.
I think it was 72 piece? ... would have to research that.
It was incredible.

These are all good reasons for saving the serious coin
for the next newest MOTIF XF.
I like mine!  (2010/11)
It’s strange too as I didn’t care for the Tyros that I recently looked at.  ?
.... don’t know why, I think it’s a fine instrument as well,
just different.
----------------
On second look of the youtube,
the QL-1 looks affordable.
These are so new I can’t find pricing.
-------------------
HOLEY CRAP!  :)
QL-1
$8000

I see you said you don’t know why.
but if you can think of any reasons, I’d love to hear them.
I’ve never played one. but I debated about what to get (Tyros or Motif XF8), before getting my Motif XF8.
have never played a Tyros. just kinda wonder.

Well, I didn’t care for it maybe because of the newness of my XF.
And Tyros seems to be more of a ‘performance’ unit.
Though I think the lions’ share of my liking it or not would have been my familiarity with my XF and the amount of study time that went into the basics just to use it to get these melodies down to listen to.
And now these days, I balance writing with more time than before
for investigations of what it can do,
that I should know how to do with it. :)
It’s an individuals’ choice.
For anyone thinking about getting Tyros, find a local store and go play it
and listen to it.
It’s sonic and sounds incredible.

Don’t let this hurt your head… Off topic I know… But different instruments with different musicians in mind… One not better than another ... Simply different targets.

It was incredible.

That tour through the mid-west (U.S.) was 1977 or 78…
(I lost a decade once!) so the ol’memory’s not good.  :)
It was reported back then
YES had to disband the large orchestra for the last half of their tour due to reasons of ‘support’ for it.
Because it was not successful, maybe is the reason even I can’t research to find anything about it… I probably never will get an answer from the
Music Critic’s Department of the Chicago Tribune.
... but I’ve wasted a little time doing crazier things !  :-)

The youtube is exactly right.
That’s outstanding!
Good Music is good.
What do you have about the background to that?
That’s huge.

As long as we are off topic and not by my post (so no criticisms please), I would like to further discuss the XF vs Tyros5 issue. I have seriously been considering trading in the XF8 for the Tyros 5, particularly after listening to the above video and the demo on the Yamaha site. I use the XF8 for live playing/improvising (often with arpeggios in Performance Mode) and sometimes recording some MIDI tracks. Sound design and professional compositions is not applicable to my use of the XF. So am I the target customer for the Tyros?

Also, I would like to know is there an equivalent on the Tyros5 to Master Mode where I can turn on or off MIDI channels sent to my iPad apps and assign and selectively control control sources to those MIDI channels going out to the iPad. In other words, can I assign a foot controller set to volume to only impact the MIDI signal going to the iPad without it impacting any voice on the Tyros.

Another question is about making changes to a recorded MIDI track. In the XF it is easy and there are many items that can be changed, Does the Tyros have MIDI editing in the same way or is it less comprehensive?

It seems to me the sounds in the Tyros5 are incredible, but there are other considerations besides the sounds. There needs to be some marketing differentiation/criteria as to who each instrument would be best suited for. I would like some guidance from Yamaha. Something like a comparative check list to help the buyer determine which is the right instrument for that person.

Thanks for listening.

@XSMercedes

Bad_Mister might have something for you about this…
I’m not the information source on Motifator by any means!  :)

Good luck

Thank you Mvm. Will do. However, the larger question is whether I trade in the Mercedes for the Stagea. Very tempting. Good thing it is not sold in the U.S.

Thank you very much for your excellent reply.
I have a dgx 505, (at Mom’s now). Thats an arranger style keyboard. Different level of wonderfulness from a Tyros 5, of course.
I indeed have not even scratched the surface with my amazing XF8. I will. I am in awe of it.
Thanks again for you thoughts.
And bad_mister, wow. The stagea is right out of this world. Love it. I have never played an organ. The thing with 2 keyboards and the bass pedals, and all the other stuff that the stagea does........its like your the commander in mission control for an amazing flying spaceship orchestra. Cool!!!!!!

And the STAGEA ELS-02C isn’t even the “professional” model ;)

◦ELS-02C Custom model - 980,000 Yen (£5950)
◦ELS-02X Professional model - 1580000 Yen (£9600)

Hmmmm...the Tyros 5 is looking like a deal ;)
