Hi, I need some advice on creating the arp synth bass used in this classic Van Halen track.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VaEdKwXJhM

I’m going to be playing it in my band on either my Motif or MOX.  Has anyone already created the sound and willing to share?

Please see the first six or so posts in This Thread.  There is an explanation for utilizing cached web pages, which is how you must now access XS threads.

Thanks.

Without the identity six digits similar to your threads with this search,
It seems like trying to find the ‘needle in the haystack’.

I know this situation is serious.
I’ve only owned an XF, we have all the support we need…

Sorry to all XS owners and hoping the Forum returns or at least is rebuilt soon.

Oh, It works when you click the ARCHIVE.
Then the search is open for the MOTIF XS FORUM
back in history.
It doesn’t when I clicked Motif XS Forum.

It’s usually always ‘Pilot Error’…
at least with me.  :)

Btw, it didn’t like this screenshot being 578 kb.
I needed to make it smaller to get in on the forum.

Sorry, but you’re still experiencing ‘Pilot Error’.  :-)

The Motifator Archive only covers threads that are several years old. The Google Cache includes much more recent ones.

If you do a Google search, and get a hit like the one in the attachment below, just click on the green downward arrow at the end of the URL. If “cached” appears, click on that.

If you have a URL such as…
http://www.motifator.com/index.php/forum/viewthread/472005/
...then preceding it with…
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:
...will get the cached page, if it exists.

For example, this works:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://www.motifator.com/index.php/forum/viewthread/472005/

Thanks 5Pin
Your post is going to be a huge help to those XS folks.
I’m always content knowing I even had a small roll within this Motifator when helping others, being a newb myself! :)

Need to thank ‘eltmatt’, the OP, for my going a bit far off topic with his thread.... which, btw, I don’t think Michael is using a ‘synth bass’ sound.
What I think I’m hearing is bass effects with those massive 15’s in the cabinets and down an octave for sure, to get his signature ‘rumble’. :)
I might be wrong. The studio version processing can be an elusive animal to track down the sounds.
There are a few bass sounds within the XF/XS that could be tweaked, transposed down an octave, and with added onboard effects that should emulate Anthony’s sound without going into the voice elements and getting all involved.
If I get some time, (laugh track), I’m going see what I can find. :-)
(Not A lot Of Time Coming Up Next Week!)

Eddie does like synths though....  good luck and enjoy one of my favorites. Saw them at the Lakeland Civic Center Lakeland Florida, the very first show for this first tour! 1986

The post above has not a thing to do with your question, it is simply SPAM.

Man, I haven’t seen spam since the work was done.
On the good side, it’s still not as pronounced as it was in the early mornings back a couple of years.

Sent you a PM with a file. Tried to post it here, no joy. I created an alias(zip) on my Mac(24kb), clicked choose file, selected the file and it appeared next to the choose file box. Clicked submit and nothing. I’m trying to establish some computer skills here and it’s not going well. Sorry.

Apologies in advance, because this is going to be off-topic…

I’m not a “Mac guy”, but it’s my understanding that an alias is just a shortcut to the actual file. I’m not sure how that relates to a zip (compressed/archive) file.

For OS X, this explains how to zip:
http://osxdaily.com/2012/01/10/how-to-zip-files-in-mac-os-x/

I’ve had no problem posting zipped files, so unless something has happened very recently, things should go smoothly.

As an experiment, I’ve captured your post as a GIF, compressed it to a ZIP, and will attach it to this post. Let’s see what happens.

EDIT: Seems to work OK.

Thank you 5pin. I found a create archive selection in the finder. Not sure about right clicking on a laptop, but when I created an archive I viewed a .zip at the end of the file. I hope it works, frustration is taking a toll. Apologies to all for my shortcomings.
