Hey, Quick question. Using [Song Mode] you can edit/select an ARP for any voice by pressing - Mixing - Rec Button - F2 As far as I know that is the only way to reach that page on song mode? The problem is that if the DAW is in playback the motif is recording all the program changes that take place i.e changing ARP voice / timing. I know there must be a way to search through ARP’s during playback without recording the data. Otherwise it’s a really slow process of stopping and starting to find the ARP you need. Please help!!! |

I know it is clear in your mind what you want to do. But your post does not convey exactly what you are trying to accomplish. Your post is more about what you think does not happen. Try posting a question that will indicate what it is you want to accomplish. You are in SONG mode, but then you mention a DAW, then you mention playback and then record - but to me it is not clear exactly what you are wishing to accomplish. What device is playing back - what device is recording? What do you want to record? A little help for some help… ? You can always select the ARP for the XS to play via the [SF1]-[SF5] buttons, when they are labeled “ARP1” - “ARP5”
If the XS is playing back you do so by accessing the PART’s ARP MAIN screen
If the XS is in record, you can access the ARPs in real time

Hahah,Ok So I’m in Song Mode - Using Pro-Tools. I don’t use the motif for recording or arranging, I use midi channels in Pro-Tools to trigger the sounds. I know how to assign an ARP to a sound, or channel in the motif’s mixer. mixer - Rec Button - F2 and so on. But as the ‘Rec Button’ has been pressed the motif records any data changes to the song if I start playback in Pro-Tools. I really need to know how I can search through different ARP types while the track is playing in Pro-Tools (so I can hear what the ARP is doing) without recording data changes to the song in the motif. I hope that makes better sense? Thanks |

Hey, 1 last question please. Is it possible to change the tempo of 1 ARP even though the motif is using the global tempo of Pro-Tools. I.e. Your session is 90bpm, great. And you need just one ARP running double time 180bp, for arguments sake? Thanks king |

It sounds like you found your answer (I am happy because I have great difficultly in understanding you, sorry)
Yes. The parameter is called “UNIT MULTIPLY” - this means you can multiply the tempo by the given values.
If you want the arpeggio to double time you set the UNIT MULTIPLY parameter = 50%
From [SONG] mode
---------- You say you don’t use the Motif XF to record - then WHY would you push the RED RECORD button?
Did you know if you do not want the Motif XF sequencer to start when you start your DAW (Pro Tools) you can make a setting for that?
AUTO allows you to use the Motif XF arpeggio (to try out arpeggios) without having to start your external DAW. Yet the Motif XF clock will run at the last clock tempo received from your DAW. |

Thanks again, it worked perfectly!! I was using the ‘rec’ button because it was the only way explained in the user manual that came with the XF, I also downloaded the 13 other manuals but haven’t been able to take a month out of studio to read through them yet.. Motif - a great machine, but some of the worst written manuals ever!! Very grateful for this forum, and all the moderators!! Bless king, 1Love |
