Yamaha sent me a full key replacement for my Motif-8 awhile ago (because my keys would break occasionally; Yamaha says that this is due to a design flaw). Er, anyway, the replacement set has chipboards(?) attached underneath and I’m apprehensive about removing the entire key set already inside my synth because I’ve never done it before. I know how to open up the hood but that’s about as far as I’ll go without assistance. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Call Yamaha (surprised you didn’t ask that when you were on the phone with them!!!). You were talking with a person who probably could have talked you through it. If you are at all unsure about what you are doing - don’t do it yourself. Putting a synth back together is not for the meek or newbie - the keys are at the very bottom of the unit - you wind up having to take the whole thing apart. Taking it apart is not really the worry - it is the reassembly - so that it works - that is the trick CALL FOR HELP! Trust me. Those who have done it my try to convince you that it is easy, but like the kid who has already learned to ride a two wheel bicycle ("it’s easy") but if you have never done it before yourself, you may have to skin your knees a few times before you get it. You don’t want to “skin your knee” with your Motif synthesizer. I think the worst feeling in the world is when you are elbows deep in trouble thinking “I would have paid some one to do this” (How I felt putting together that Ikea furniture - half-way through I would have paid anything to have someone else to assemble that bookcase :-D Hope that helps. |

Bad Mister, I was afraid of that. The first thing to do is to figure out which tools I’ll be needing and then proceed from there. Thanks for your response. geoff-h, thanks for the vid but I got a *full* replacement set, not just a single replacement key (which I’ve had to replace several times before). |
