Hi . . .

I’m super new to the forum and the Motif 6 I just bought. I’m primarily a guitar player, but wanted something in a 61-Key size to add a bit of boards a few times a night. I’ve got a Kurzweil SP2X, but it’s too huge to use on smaller stages.

Anyway . . . I was wondering if there are voice banks that can be loaded into the Motif 6 available here? I’ve got the Voice Editor and USB drivers loaded, so it appears the Motif is looking for .W2E files (I assume).

I came across the Vintage Keys Voice Bank here:

http://shop.motifator.com/index.php/voice-libraries/motif-voice-libraries/vintage-keys.html

. . . but I don’t know if they work for the Motif 6.

Any help would be appreciated. I’m looking for mostly 70s & 80s types of things . . . big, fat synth/brass/string patches; Oberheihm stuff; Deep Purple B3 sounds; just about anything from the standard 70s organ/electric piano/strings . . . to the 80s “fat patches” ala Foreigner, Journey, VH Obie, etc.

Thanks!

Scott . . .

Hi Scott,
Welcome to the forum. When you hit the library click the voice libraries in the upper left hand corner, then from the pop-up, scroll down to Motif Classic and click. Here you will find libraries for your machine. Some may require additional sample memory installed to your board, if you presently don’t have it.
Vintage Keys will load into the Classic without extra memory. As per your description I think you will enjoy this library, it’s a great tool to have in the box. Very nicely done, with much to offer.

Thanks, Stone . . .

As you can tell, I’m one of those “press a key and get the sound I like” kinda guys. I don’t at all mind a learning curve, but OTOH, I don’t mind at all spending the money on Voice Banks that people much more qualified than myself have made.

No rush to reply, but I have a couple of questions and queries before I nail down exactly what to buy here:

1. I’m assuming the Classic Motif (Motif 6) will only take the 64mb sample memory card. Lemme know if this is correct. If it can use more, the 2gb one looks like a winner.

2. Is there any way to know exactly the number and type of voices in each bank you sell, or do the audio samples represent the whole shebang?

3. The Vintage Keys Bank looks like a great place to start: The Vintage Synths are what I’d definitely need. They can be used for just about any type of tunes . . . from pads for AOR and ballads, to full out 80s key-based tunes (ala Journey, Foreigner, VH, etc). The Rhodes patches are great, but I wouldn’t used them as much . . . same as the Wurl and Clavs.

4. As to the sounds I need, here’s where your help could be invaluable. In order of sounds I’d love to have are:

a. Vintage 80s synths and pads (more chording stuff than “moog” style). The Obie patch on Vintage Synths is great, but I’m not sure what else is in that Voice Bank.

b. Big, fat String/Brass pads ala “New York Minute” by the Eagles and the like. Also, string sounds that could be used of single note passages ala Waiting For a Girl by Foreigner or a lot of the Journey sounds, Boys of Summer, etc.

c. Organ/B3 sounds. I would place this at Number 1 on my priority list, but the stock organ patches are pretty good on the Motif 6. But, B3 would be a staple of the kind of music I play, so if there’s a Voice Bank with killer retro and authentic B3 sounds that would be a huge plus. John Lord is always the template I think of.

d. Real Piano patches. Again, the stock ones are pretty darned good, but if there’s some Voice Banks with killer grand piano voice that would also be excellent.

e. Rhodes/Wurly/EP . . . it looks like the Vintage Synth Voice Bank has that covered, so although I wouldn’t use them as much as Organ/Synth/Brass-String pads, it will come in handy once in a while.

Basically, pretend I’m in a 1980s classic-rock/AOR/hard-rock band, and that’s the range of sounds I’d love. No need for trance, dance, beats, and all that other stuff. Obie, Strings, Brass, Fat Pads, B3, Piano, Electric Piano, some various synth and “airy voice” sounds for variety . . . that’s would wrap it all up.

Any suggestions for the most cost effective way to get most of what’s on my “wish list” would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Scott . . .
