Dear Experts, Since December 2009 I’m happy user of MO6.
Since that time I’ve gained some knowledge about synthesis and
So I have a question concerning synchronization of MO6 with this version of Cubase. I’ve spent quite a lot of time on reading MO manual and Cubase manual, I downloaded some additional device maps from the Internet etc. but I still have problems with creating a song in the “SONG” mode. Here is my configuration details: MO: - I set [UTILITY]->[OTHER]->MIDI IN/OUT to USB because I’m using USB cable as a connector - I uploaded my song, then I switched to SONG mode
- I checked receive channels for each song instrument using
- I checked out channel using [SONG]->[TRACK]->out channel also channels are set as 1,2...16 and Port is set to “Off” for each instrument. PC: Yamaha usb midi driver: I didn’t change anything, using this configuration MO Voice editor seems to work properly… Cubase AI 4: - I created new project MIDI 16 channels - then I checked active MIDI ports using Devices->Device Setup option. There are four YamahaMO-1..4 in ports and eight YamahaMO-1..8 out ports, all are active. - for each midi track I selected Input Routing : YamahaMO6-1 and similar port for Output Routing. Each track has corresponding channel 1..16.
First problem is with instruments.
I tried to record my song, created using MO sequencer and then replay it using Cubase. There are some problems here:
- while the record the instruments aren’t played correctly (similar to the previous problem)
I also tried to record my song using one midi track, I set “All” for Input Routing. In this case everything is all right but as I can guess each instrument should be associated with and recorded on separate MIDI track and I can play it using the Key Editor from Cubase. Please help, maybe I ommited something important in configurations. I’m tired a little, I want to compose !
Best Regards,

Your trying to do several things here so it can get confusing. Sync. You set the utility midi sync to midi if you want to use timing from cubase. Then in cubase you send midi clock to the #1 mo port in sync setup on the transport menu. When you have a track in cubase with the input and output set to the mo, you would turn off local control in utility so that what you play doesn’t trigger the synth right off. When you hit a note it would go to cubase and come back before hitting the sound module part of the mo. Otherwise you have a little loop and get multiple notes that can cancel each other out etc. So in your situation I would set the output of the track to not connected until after you record then connect it and see if that was the problem. You can’t really record to a bunch of channels and have it all neat and orderly. You can record one channel with everything in it (set to ‘any or all’ channel) then a command on the midi menu will split up the different channels into different tracks (forgot what that’s called...but you should be able to recognize it). There’s other issues with the sequencer that I’m not up on but this stuff might solve some of your problems. |
