First of all I just upgraded my setup from Yamaha i88x to the n8 so I can take advantage of Windows 7 64 bit architecture. The N8 sounds sweeeet! Now I want to set things up under Windows 7 along with my XS Rack. I previously had an mLAN setup with the i88x, now I guess I need to install the firewire drivers instead this time. I see drivers, utilities, and firmware updates at Yamaha’s site, but I need to know which versions and which software I need to install and in what order. I know the search engine is my friend:), but I can’t seem to find anything consistent on this in one single place. Can someone point me to a link/article that explains step by step how to set up the n8 and XS Rack under Windows 7 64 bit. Thanks |

Yamaha n-Series Consoles and Motif XS w/YSFW Driver Simply type in “n-series” in the SEARCH BY KEYWORD item found on every page here on Motifator and the articles will appear in the SUPPORT column. Posts will appear in the FORUM column… The instructions are not Windows 7 specific as there is not difference between setup for Window 7 from any other computer OS… (as long as you have the proper versions of the drivers for your computer). |

Bad Mister,
-Yamaha mLAN16
This tells me the systems “recognizes” both the n8 and the mLAN16E2 from my XS Rack. However, under properties for both the mLAN16E2 and the Yamaha n series it says “No drivers are installed for this device”. Is that normal??? Then when I start up Cubase, neither the XS Rack nor the n8 are recognized? I tried going under device settings to change the VST Audio Settings to the Yamaha FW ASIO, but I get an error message saying “Device could not be opened”. Do I need to have Studio Manager or something else installed? How can I tell if I have install all the right pieces and the correct versions? I went through a similar exercise (nightmare) trying to set up this up under mLAN. You’d think it’d be easier going the FW route. Pulling my hair out now:) HELP! |

You should have the following items updated:
· Cubase program updated to latest version
Go to CONTROL PANELS and locate the Yamaha Steinberg FW Driver icon… open its control panel - what do you see? |

When I go to Control Panel I see Yamaha Steinberg FW Driver, but when I click on it all of the parameters do not have values. In other words, Sample rate wordclock, clocksource etc all have no values and the drop down menu also has no values. One things that was wierd during the installation was when I did the IEEE1394 FW Update the only device I could update was the XS Rack. When I tried to run the update with just the n8, the software could not detect the n8. Also after going through the nh-series Firmware Updater, I was able to install the update on n8, I could see the Master Meter on the n8 progressing up and then after the update was installed, the n8 rebooted back to its normal state when I powered it on. The funny thing was went I attempted to confirm the update by powering up while holding the Stop button, the only thing see in the Master Level Meter display is the LR meter lit up in green at -60 and -48 and the yellow at 10 db, just like in the setup instructions. The only thing I don’t see is I think there’s supposed to be a red light indicator where there as circle with what looks like a Play button sign (>) that I think is also supposed to be lit. Should there be something that shows the actual version of the FW? Maybe I need to start the entire install over. If I need to do that what order do I need to deinstall things? What order do I need to reinstall thing? Do I do all of the installation for the n8 first and then do all the installs/setup for the mLAN16E2? Thanks for the help. |

Since you are in the US, I’m going to recommend that you call Customer Support, and have an Application Specialist talk you through the setup.
When you open the Control Panel for the Yamaha Steinberg FW Driver you should see four tabs:
If you are only seeing the GENERARL then you have problems. WE are not sure where they lie and we are not sure what you have installed. Please try and have a list of things you have installed for the Application Specialist, as they will only be able to help you based on what you can confirm you’ve done.
Have you tried just connecting the Motif-Rack XS to the computer and then looking at the CONTROL PANEL for the YSFW driver? Do you see the Motif-Rack XS tab?
Let us know… Yamaha Corporation of America is closed today (Holiday) but they will be back tomorrow 8:30am ~ 5:00pm Pacific Standard Time 714.522.9000 |
