Forum,

In song mode I have Parts 1 & 8 assigned to asR. When using this ‘song’ in Master mode the behaviour is that the master volume slider controls parts 2-7 in a global way [with individual sliders able to adjust their relative volumes] and parts 1 & 8 are only controlled by their individual sliders and completely unaffected by the master volume.

This was unexpected by me but probably correct.

So where can I read more about this and clear up my understanding?

I haven’t found any articles that specifically address main versus assignable output signal routing.

Here’s what I know…
The default situation is that all Parts are assigned to the main L and R stereo mix. The signals are routed through the System and Master Effects, through the MASTER VOLUME slider on the front panel, and then to the main L and R outputs.

When a Part is instead routed to an assignable output, it takes a different path. The signal is no longer a component of the main mix - it bypasses System/Master Effects, and goes directly to the ASSIGNABLE L and/or R outputs. It therefore doesn’t pass through the MASTER VOLUME slider.

Although not directly related to your question, this thread might be interesting:
