I use my MX49 with Cubase. Is there a way to add a small, random pitch-change to individual drum sounds, a different pitch each time it plays, so as to make them sound more natural? I’ve looked at John Melas’s software and it doesn’t seem to have this (random panning is included, though). I remember even the Roland D-110 module back in the 1980s had this. Is there a way to control drum pitch via MIDI, perhaps?

Pitch can be made to vary with key Velocity, via the Pitch Velocity Sensitivity setting.

Random pitch change can be applied to a Normal (not Drum) Voice, on a per-Element basis.

See page 8 of the Synthesizer Parameter Manual (http://download.yamaha.com/file/48523).

Based on the MX Data List (http://download.yamaha.com/file/57920), Random Pitch Depth for a Normal Voice is controlled by this SysEx message:

F0 43 10 7F 17 41 ee 3D dd F7
where…
ee = Element number 1~8, 00~07
dd = Depth 0~127, 00~7F

I don’t have an MX or Melas software, so I don’t know whether such control is implemented by Melas.

Thanks for that. You always come up with the answers!

A useful feature that neither Yamaha nor John Melas thought to implement in any straightforward way. I can do it much more easily in Cubase’s Groove Editor.
