I’ll stop by our local Guitar center this week and see what’s up and report back. My M8 unit is in lock-down “embargo” but is shipping out to my house tomorrow 5/5.

Who’s making an un-boxing video for youtube? I should even video the delivery guy just in case he drops it 3 or 4 times on the way to the door. If I wasn’t so broke from buying the Montage I could leave him a good tip.

Yikes! Hopefully you won’t have to make a Montage Droppeth video.

I always pick up my gear, but the store is only 45 min., so doable.

My invoice now shows ship date of 5 MAY 16, picked up a compliant 32GB USB drive at lunch and will be ready to upgrade to the new 1.10 image on arrival.

Then it will be driver installation fun for both a Win7 box and Win10 laptop.

Surely you will demo some sounds prior to all of your installations. Concerning the flash drives I see the 16s, 32s and 64s etc. What were the minimum/maximum requirements for the Montage?

Maximum capacity listed is 32GB and there is a caution in the Owners Manual concerning current draw on the “To Device” USB port. They list 500 ma maximum and possible damage might occur if greater current to sourced.

Of course I will spend some melding time before the upgrade!!!

I shall also submit the “Early Adopter” data as soon as possible as well.

My XF8 will not get lonely either, I chose to have both BH and FSX keybeds for a reason.

Is there a USB compatibility list? I’ve read that some newer drives show up as local drives and not removable drives on the computer. Not sure if this effects the Montage.

There is a list, sorry. Checking it twice for my drive.

Looks like the Kingston isn’t here DTSE9H/32GBZET
and neither is the SanDisk SDCZ36-032G-AFFP

Yes, at http://download.yamaha.com along with the manuals, etc.

Frys had a few of the compatible in stock.

I chose a PNY P-FD32GCOM-GE from the list and it was in stock.

Amazon’s listings were all “non prime”, although I admit to a rather limited search out of the provided list.

Some complaints are the slow speeds. I did notice that the SAMSUNG MUF-32BB/AM is for USB 3.0 but is on the list. Wonder if it’s faster.

I am pretty sure the “to device” port is USB 2.0, looking at the picture of the rear in the brochure, the plastic is black, not blue on the socket.

That’s not to say that the transfer rate might be a little faster on a 3.0 drive. The only “slow” would be waveform transfers.

I can’t say that it would hurt to have a 3.0 drive if it is listed to be compatible!

Amazon also has the SAMSUNG as PRIME (free 2 day shipping) but they cost $5 more. Reviews were good on heat, build quality and speed. They are extremely small so nothing sticking way out on the synth.

Yes, the Montage is USB 2.0.

Montage has shipped and now it is just the wait for delivery.

Back to the manuals and some planning.

Not sure if it’s relevant or not but none of the USB drives I use on my MOXF are listed as being compatible but they all work. The current ones I’m using are all USB3 as well. OK I won’t get USB3 speed with the keyboard but it’s nice to know they work OK :)
