Help! I’m a new motif xs6 owner and it works fine except that the output from the headphones is panned to the left. Its not the headphones because they work perfectly in other devices. I’m also sure I plugged the headphones in the right socket.

Welcome to the forum.

Do the main left and right line outputs - L/MONO and R - work correctly?

I haven’t checked R yet but L/MONO gave the same panning issue

L/MONO and R are each mono outputs, with TS jacks. If you’re plugging headphones into them, you’ll only get signal on the left side of the headphones.

Besides listening with headphones, what sound system do you have?  In order to diagnose the problem, L/MONO and R need to be connected to two channels of a stereo sound system.

I have JBL platinum series speakers. I still get the sound panned when I use the phones plug

As far as I know, JBL Platinum Series are computer speakers, and they have a 3.5mm TRS plug. If so, how are you adapting that to connect to the XS L/MONO and R jacks?

Not exactly. I get that the L/MONO and R jacks are mono but what about the Phones jack? is there no way to get stereo with my current set up?

What does “not exactly” mean? I’m trying to help you diagnose the problem, but the information you’re providing doesn’t answer my questions.

Usually computer speakers have a wire that connects from one of them to the other, and another wire with a 3.5mm mini-phone plug that connects to the audio source.

Is that what your speakers have? If so, something like this should work…
http://www.amazon.com/Hosa-YMP-434-Female-8-Inch-Breakout/dp/B0010D0HO0

If not, then please describe the connections to your speakers.

The signal going to the PHONES jack comes from the circuit feeding the L/MONO and R jacks. You should be able to get both channels at the PHONES jack. You seem to be saying that’s not happening. In order to help determine why, I need to know whether there’s a signal at both the L/MONO and R jacks when they have plugs connected to speakers at the same time.

Yes there is a signal at both L/MONO and R jacks when they are connected at the same time.
I’m still going to get the stereo breakout cable at a local store tomorrow

The next thing to check is whether that’s also happening with the ASSIGNABLE OUTPUTs. See (12) ASSIGNABLE OUT L and R jacks on page 18 of the XS Owner’s Manual. Pick a mode, use Output Select to assign some Parts to asL+R, and check the output levels at the ASSIGNABLE OUT L and R jacks.

That’s interesting, because the R and L ASSIGNABLE OUTPUTs use a different DAC and amplification chain than the main L/MONO and R outputs, and even bypass System Effects.

If you feel comfortable doing diagnostic testing, you could put the XS into Test Mode, as per this.

Otherwise, based on the information you’ve provided, I suggest that you have your XS serviced by a competent technician.
