Are there any options to output the display screen info onto a computer monitor or iPad to make it easier to view and work with? All comments appreciated!

Other than training a camera on the screen, no there are not options to output the signal.

This is the XF forum...not the XS forum.

John Melas has a set of outstanding applications for working with the XF / XS.  I personally find them much easier to work with for programming the XF than the built-in interface.  I haven’t tried the XS version but the XF tools are well worth the price of admission.

Check them out; http://www.jmelas.gr/motif/index.php

Anyone old enough might remember back in 1987 when the resolution of VGA (640x480) was considered a big deal. Well, the display in the Motif XS and XF is QVGA (Quarter VGA - 320x240). That’s the same resolution as some mobile phones. It doesn’t look too bad on small screens, but enlarging it results in very jagged characters. Even if upconverting to 640x480 was done, the result wouldn’t be great.

However, if you want a larger screen display for the purpose of editing Voices or Songs/Patterns, then the Yamaha Motif XS Editor (a free download) is worth trying.

VGA!?!?!? I remember back in the day when there was only CGA!  Sure there was crummy resolution and you couldn’t draw a round circle but we had four… count ‘em FOUR colors.  Simultaneously!!!  What an advancement from the old monochrome Hercules adapters.

Pssshh… VGA.  Next thing you know people will talk about giving up their floppy disks!  Now where’s my copy of Lotus 1-2-3?

Yeah… well, I remember monochrome.  ;-)

Of course, I mentioned VGA because it was such an improvement over CGA and EGA, but the Motif display resolution is slightly better than 4-color CGA (320x240 vs 320x200).

This Wikipedia image shows the QVGA/VGA relationship:
