I just bought a drum sample package and it was given to me in the form of a .zip file.  Anybody know how I can import the sounds to either the Motif xs8 or Cubase 8 so I can start using them?

It depends what form the samples are in. Motif file(s), generic WAVs, or something else? If WAVs, what’s the bit depth and sample rate?

Unzip the file and let us know what’s in it - in particular, file extension(s).

They’re WAV files. I don’t have a sample rate but the bit rate is 2116kps.

They’re WAV files. I don’t have a sample rate but the bit rate is 2116kps.

The maximum the XS can use directly is 44.1 kHz 16-bit stereo. That’s a bit rate of 44.1 x 16 x 2 = 1411.2 kbps.

The WAVs you have are apparently 24-bit.
44.1 x 24 x 2 = 2116.8 kbps.

If you want to load those WAVs to the XS, they’d first have to be converted to 16-bit. I believe Audacity can do that… http://audacityteam.org/

The right-hand side of page 284 of the XS Owner’s Manual explains how to load WAVs to the XS.

Thanks.  So I used audacity to convert the WAVs to 16-bit format and was able to load the sample to the motif (thanks for the help with that btw) but now what I hear when I play the sample is straight static. Did I miss something in the conversion from 24 to 16-bit?

Have you ever successfully loaded a sample library to your XS before? If not, the DIMMs (optional sample memory) installed in your XS might not be compatible - “static” can be a result of that.

If you need to try a sample library, here are free ones:

Be sure to back up any of your own work to an “All” file before loading files from the above.

What happens if you play the WAV files directly from a USB flash drive, without loading them into the XS? (That capability has been available since OS 1.50.)

What drum library did you purchase?

Any commercial library created to LOAD into the XS would not need conversion, and would come with a pdf instruction file.

I was able to download the sample library fine onto the XS so it looks like the DIMM’s aren’t the issue.  I can play the WAV’s from the usb source directly but that comes out as static too. The drum library I’m trying to load is from http://www.theproducerschoice.com.

Since the WAVs don’t play correctly from a USB drive, then either the conversion didn’t happen correctly, or the original 24-bit files have a problem.

Have you tried playing the files on your computer?

When you converted the files to 16-bit, at what sampling rate was that done?
