My guess is that Yamaha will have an iOS application, however, do not believe that Yamaha will target iOS editing only. Assuming a primary target market is the EDM producer ("any sound, any time") and REFACE is an analogue synth (the CS80 sneak preview reference), I will be very surprised if Yamaha isn’t planning to bundle an iOS app with it - maybe not during the first release, but in the future. Also, will be surprised if the REFACE doesn’t encourage physical engagement with beat making (pads) and sound shaping controls/modulation capabilities (all the usual suspects). For myself, I am hoping it’s a monster class-compliant analogue synth (or modular synth system) with excellent iOS integration; maybe even a new release of Cubasis that integrates well with the synth’s iOS app. If so, time to open the wallet. |

Maybe the Montage is the Yamaha project Richard Devine is working on… New Yamaha synths will include totally alien new technology says interview |

For my 2Cents, I think ReFace refers to something like the Roland Plugout synths, enabling you to load up software to reface the keyboard into different classic synths. I guess the knobs, buttons and sliders would light up depending on what was installed! |

Good point… I think I thought the same after seeing the only two available ‘preview’ videos yesterday. They spoke of ‘small in size’.... Personally, we have a black XF and the new white XF and are most contented.
Being Yamaha fans as well, and knowing they have a sense of humor,

Thanks for posting, my03. I’m looking forward to finding out all the details in a few days. For those who are into vintage synths, it looks very intriguing. It probably isn’t for me, though. |

If the filing date of the trademarks is any indication, then with the Reface series being filed as a trademark in June 2014 and announced at Summer NAMM 2015, the Montage with the trademark filed in December 2014 will be announced at Winter NAMM 2016. |

Wondering if the software “plug-ins” are iPad, PC/Mac or both. Seems the best market strategy would be all platforms? |
