Dear Friends,
I was using a Tyros as the second instrument to take solos with organ and synth sounds.
On Tyros it took a few clicks to change the voice (ex. from Organ to Synth) during a solo.
Is it easy to change from one voice to another on MX61, like it is in Tyros?
Please help me, because I have to decide and buy something as soon as possible.
Best regards

Welcome to the forum. The MX models are limited in some respects. For example, they don’t have a separate Voice mode - Voices are selected via the Performance mode. If you intend to do any extensive editing, it will require software running on a computer. An MX might not be as convenient as you would like. Perhaps the following will help you decide… See http://www.motifator.com/index.php/support/view/getting_started_with_the_yamaha_mx49_and_mx61

Although not as inexpensive, a MOXF (or perhaps a used MOX) might be a better choice for your needs. |

Thank you very much 5pinDIN, I have indeed changed my mind towards buying a MOXF6.
But, I still have the same question.
Thank you in advance
Best regards

Have in mind that MX performances are the equivalent of MOX or MOXF mixes (except that there is no onboard sequencer to record and that there are only 4 single insertion effects in MX instead of 8 dual in MOXF). The polyphony is the same and the feature of no-cutting voices when changing them within a performance is also available. Also, you will be surprised by the similarity of MX and MOXF internal single voices. Of course, MOXF can load new waveforms in optional memory board. Visit a local dealer and listen to both instruments. If you can afford the extra money for the extra features (and extra weight) go for the MOXF. |

Thank you very much Kostas, I have already decided for MOXF6, since my dealer gave me a very nice discount. I am just a bit anxious about assigning my favorite voices to tracks (’registrations’ was the word in Tyros terminology)’ so that I can switch from ex. rock organ to saw lead with the click of a button during a solo. As far as I understood, I can do this by creating a pattern (or song) and assigning the voices to different tracks, as if I were recording a whole song.
I will see tomorrow, when I get this marvelous keyboard.

It’s really quite straightforward, especially since you don’t have to record any MIDI data on the tracks. Once the Parts are assigned, just STORE the Pattern/Song mix, and then when you call it up you’ll be able to easily move between up to 16 different Voice Parts (per Pattern/Song). |

I own lot’s of Yamaha gear. I have a Motif XS6, original Motif 7, PSR 3000, MOX8 and recently purchased the MX61. I purchased the MX 61 for gigs that required a long pathway to setup. Like Casinos, Hotels and Corporate gigs. Being a piano player it is a bit of a problem with the action, but I have to say it is one of the best purchases I have made. Price, sound and weight are the real features. I love my MX61. Grab a light stand, small amp and the MX61 in a gig bag and your good to go.
On another note however, I sent in to get the free flash drive and gig bag (MX promotional) and it has been a long time and still nothing.

I love just how lightweight the MOX and MOXF are so the MX61 must be a breeze for difficult venues. |

You CAN configure the performances to make quick changes from instrument1 to instrument2 - one button push with no limit on the instrument type you are changing to/from.

Hey Guys,
I too am considering buying an MX-61 IF I can edit some factory-applied effects. For example, the Leslie/rotary effect on an organ voice I like is “too intense,†you might say. I’d like to turn it off (no spin) and on (ramp up) with a momentary off/on foot switch. Likewise, I’d like to reduce the amount of vibrato on a flute voice. Are either or both of these possible...? If so, is it something you can do with Cubase or other third-party editor? I’ve got both Win XP and Win7 PCs, if you can recommend one. Really appreciate any how-to advice, as well – thanks! |

Wow, thanks, George! Sounds like you’ve got it covered. I’m going to try this maybe tomorrow with an MX-61 and see if I can make it happen. Not sure I follow the “ PERFORMANCE editors.v†you mentioned… is that the name of the software? |

Psicraft have a limited features Performance Editor called VycroMX and a higher feature one for a modest price. http://www.psicraft.com. John Melas produces a Performance and Voice Editor called MX Librarian http://www.jmelas.gr/motif or http://www.jmelas.gr/motif/products.php. |

Hi George,
Voice Insert Effect
Thanks! PS: Thinking I might not be able to dig down that far in MX menu screens, I downloaded VycorMX Performance Editor from psicraft, but seems I ended up the Pro version, as it asks for a license number… Anyway, never having used such software, I doubt I could get up to speed on it quick enough. |
