Whether a (relatively) high output impedance would significantly affect the sound quality is dependent on how flat the headphone’s impedance curve is. I don’t know what it’s like for the DT-770 phones, so my concern was cautionary.
Â
I agree with you in that I find setting the MASTER VOLUME control slider on my XF at about midpoint provides sufficient volume for my needs with my phones. However, I considered that salvosound was finding the XF output to be insufficient with the DT-770 phones. Even given identical impedance, sensitivity and efficiency among various headphones can vary quite a bit, and comparing manufacturers’ specs can be an exercise in frustration. My concern was to have sufficient output to drive at higher levels.
These might help with understanding why I was concerned whether the HA400 would be a good choice:

5pinDIN, thanks once again for pointing to very useful information for those of us with a lesser technical background! |

Guys, firstly thanking both for your support given to me in my research i want to share with you what has been my final choice:
-With the amp between keyb and phones it would be better to have a phones with higher impedance to have better quality even at huge volumes?

You’re welcome, cmayhle. By the way, if anyone ever needs higher output level in Voice mode (only), the Master EQ (accessible via Utility mode) can be used to increase it significantly. If you do so, I’d suggest setting for shelving, with the “Q” at 0.1 (minimizes peaks and dips), bringing up the gains as needed, but trying to keep the display showing as flat a response as possible, unless equalization is actually needed. See page 224 of the XF Reference Manual. |

The headphone amp would allow use of higher impedance phones, but I doubt they would make a significant difference in sound quality, and will limit the attainable level (if that’s a concern). The amp model you bought has an output impedance of less than 1/6 the nominal impedance of your phones. That ratio is sufficient to reduce any frequency response variations due to the phones’ impedance curve to what will likely be an acceptable level. If it were me, I’d keep the 32 ohm phones because they could still be used directly with the XF, should using the amp at some time become inconvenient. Of course, it’s your decision to make. |

All audio cable connections to the XF can be made and left in place. As long as you don’t use the RCA outputs, any turn on/off pulse should only be noticeable at the headphones. You could plug them into the amp after it’s been powered, and remove them before powering it down. If you do want to use the RCA outputs for some purpose, turn the headphone amp on first, then the gear it’s attached to - reverse the procedure for turning off. I only mentioned what the manual said because some amps can put out a significant pulse, and you might be wearing the phones at the time. I presume that Musical Fidelity wouldn’t have included the precaution if that were not a possibility with their product. |

OK so i plugin double rca to jack cable into motif as fixed without worrying about nothing. i have to pay attention only to the sequence about the connection of phones to the amp.

What position are you setting the XF’s MASTER VOLUME slider?
Â
If it works at all, it’s extremely unlikely to have any noticeable audible effect. |

Both levels of volume are set to maximum.
So you re telling that if the ampli and the cable i bought work i should not hear any increasing in volume respect to when i plug phones directly to the XF?

If you move the cable from the PHONES output to the L/MONO or R output, does the level change? (You can expect that only one side - probably the left phone - will have output this way.)
Â
I said nothing of the sort. I suggest that you reread my previous post, and note that what you quoted was in reply to your question about the cable. |
