Dear Motif experts,

I need your help again.
I’ve been trying to connect my Motif XF6 to Cubase AI 6 for a while.
(The Cubase which was included in the package.)
My tablet PC (Windows 8 - 32 Bit) is connected to the Motif XF via USB.

I installed drivers, the XF VST editor and Cubase.
The connection between the Editor (which is available in the Cubase project templates) and the Motif XF is ok.
The Motif XF is shown as Online and the editor shows the voices correctly.
My aim is that I can transmit my pattern(s) and my song directly to Cubase.
(In order to make some accurate improvements, to copy sections etc.)

In this French video it seems the guy imported a song from a USB stick:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44q-2oFIbFo
(at 15:20)

I would prefer not to save songs/patterns on a USB stick.
My thought/wish was that if I change something in Cubase,
it will be automatically synchronized with the Motif XF.

I would use the Motif XF just for recording and voice selections.
Any additional work I would like to do in Cubase.
(I prefer bigger display, mouse and keyboard.)

Thanks for any help!

Best regards

Ability to import finished songs made in XF in Cubase is presented here: http://www.motifator.com/index.php/support/view/motif_xf_song_import
There are connectivity synthesizer with computer network http://www.motifator.com/index.php/forum/viewthread/468712
This allows you to create a shared folder on a computer without the need to use USB.
A song created in Cubase, with sounds XF synthesizer can be loaded into a stored MIDI file and load settings and control information from a file VST Editor.

Thank you for watching my video, if you want to import en all file in cubase (it’s the only way to import a Motif XF native song file) without usb key, you need to use the ethernet connexion by using the Verda Lumo link.

Thank you for your answers.

OK, what I understood from the site and your posts:
To transfer a song I need either a USB stick or an ethernet connection between my PC and the Motif XF.
(When using an Ethernet connection, no USB stick is required
because my PC can access the songs directly from the internal storage of the Motif XF.)
Once the song has been loaded in Cubase, it is possible to synchronize it with the Motif XF.

So let’s write down an easy example:

1. I create 3 sections in the pattern mode on the Motif XF.
2. The 3 sections get chained (pattern chain)
3. I make a song out of the chain.
4. Then I save this song (.X3A file) on a USB stick.
5. I load the X3A file into Cubase.
6. Now I change some voices, quantize everything, duplicate some tracks, add effects like Cutoff etc.
7. After synchronizing (by using the VST editor), the song on the Motif XF is updated (same song version like in Cubase)

Everything correct?

Best regards

Hello guys,

Yesterday I tried it several times.
Good news was that I was able to synchronize my Motif XF with Cubase AI via USB.
As already mentioned in another post in this thread, I copied the ALL data to a USB stick and loaded a song in Cubase.
Project template: Motif XF with VST Editor (I don’t know when to use the other templates).
Song import: Motif XF song - all MIDI tracks (of a random song).

While being in Cubase, I was in the song mode on the Motif XF and synchronized it within the Editor.
When I pressed the play button in Cubase, it really sounded as it should.
(Of course I chose the correct song on the Motif XF which I loaded in Cubase before.)

One thing I did not fully understand/test:
After reworking the tracks in Cubase (adding effects, moving notes, adding notes etc.),
can I simply synchronize the “new song version” (created in Cubase) with the old one, which is stored in the Motif XF?
On the Editor there is the function from MOtif XF -> PC, and vice versa.
That should be it…

I assume pressing the play button on the Motif XF makes only sense if I activate the “Remote function”.
Because otherwise Cubase and the Motif XF seem to be “independend”.
(Cubase can run the song, and the Motif XF - which doesn’t really make sense because it’s like having 2 times the same song.)

Best regards
