Anyone have any luck duplicating that Synare drum sound that was used in Ring My Bell by Anita Ward, think its also used in Hella Good by No Doubt, I can get the sound dead-on with my Fantom X but can’t get the decay proper, singer wants it by the weekend lol. Anyway, went thru the kits on my Motif XS rather hastily and found nothing close. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

If you have the patience, you might find a usable WAV sample here:

Yeah I rooted thru all 150 some samples there and could find that particular one, I appreciate you pointing me in that direction though. I searched the net high/low for a sample of that figuring it would be quite easy to find as I’ve heard it in numerous songs over the years

User 1 A1 the voice sounds on G3. I hit it with a sine wave, should be close, I can’t tell anymore my ears are ringing.

It’s a regular zip file that needs opening on your computer first.

I can open it with multiple apps on Mac and Windows.  The system archive tool on Mac works, as does Winzip on Windows.

What have you tried?

Click the link and download the file to your computer. Unzip it with whatever you normally use to do that. (Your member profile doesn’t indicate your computer platform. For Windows, I use http://www.7-zip.org/  ) The result will be Bell Synare.X0A, which can be copied to a USB drive. You can then load the entire “All” file on the XS, but I’d suggest just loading the single Voice to a User location of your choice.

EDIT: Apparently I fell asleep while philwoodmusic posted. ;-)

You might want to check out this site:
http://sampleswap.org/filebrowser-new.php?d=DRUMS+(FULL+KITS)/SynDrum/
In particular, SynDr108.WAV and SynDr110.WAV

(Note: For some reason the URL will not post correctly, and clicking on the link won’t work. Copy and paste the entire URL line into your browser.)

Attached are the MP3 versions of those WAVs from the site. I don’t know if the WAVs are much different (longer, etc.). If the MP3s seem interesting, you could register to download the WAVs.

Thank you 5pinDin, sometimes I gather I’m a bit short on words.

It can be hard to tell how much information is sufficient. Sometimes I’m probably a bit too verbose.

It’s too bad that Yamaha didn’t see the value of being able to save a single Voice - that could be handy at times. You can do a bulk dump (see page 134 of the XS Reference Manual), and it works as long as no Waveforms are needed, but that assumes everyone knows how to use a SysEx file. An advantage is that the data loads into the Edit Buffer, so unless you decide to keep it you don’t have to overwrite a User location.

See, I don’t know when to stop... ;-)
