Hi, No response on Plug-In Boards forum for a few days - cross posting to Motif XF:  Here’s my problem:

I just purchased a FW16E Firewire Expansion Board for my Motif XF8.  I downloaded the latest version of the drivers (currently Yamaha Steinberg driver 1.7.3 from http://download.yamaha.com/
Unfortunately, this driver is *unsigned*.  In order to get the driver to install properly on Win 7 x64, you have to reboot your machine and then hold down F8 during startup and Disable Driver Signature Enforcement.  Once the driver has installed properly, you can boot/reboot normally and the FW16E will continue to work properly.

The problem gets worse if you’re using Vista x64.  I found that in order to use the FW16E on Vista x64, every time you intend to use the FW16E you must remember to boot with Driver Signing disabled.  (It’s okay to sleep the machine, the driver will still be recognized).  If you reboot, you must remember to F8 and disable driver signing.

So, here’s the ask:

Is there any chance Yamaha can release a new or existing version of the driver signed by a recognized authority (i.e. Microsoft) or am I just SOL?

Thanks,
blyons

I’d be surprised if Yamaha is not aware of this and hopefully is looking into the best solution.

Home, but a little confused. The FW Yamaha Steinberg driver 1.7.3 is for Mac, no? If you are running Windows (64) shouldn’t you be using 1.6.5? We actually tested this exact set up using several DAWs and it does seem to be working fine.  Vista is possibly another issue as this OS has not been quite as co-operative, let’s say!

If there are remaining issues, though, as said earlier, I’m sure Yamaha will be aware of them but, typically, updates do not come ‘pre-announced’. They just show up when ready.

Hi,

You are correct.  It’s version 1.6.5 on Windows (my mistake).  However, the issue remains.  In order to install the driver on Win 7 x64 SP 1 you have to F8 and disable driver signing as listed above.  I’m on the road right now and will be unable to tell you the exact version of Vista x64 I’m running.  I want to know if Yamaha can get the drivers signed for Windows x64 machines so that I can use my FW16E without having to go through extra contortions.  Thanks for letting me know about unannounced updates too.  I’ll wait for a fix but would still like to know that it’s an acknowledged issue/bug fix.

Thanks!
