So, if you have really big brain (you need one its DSP programming) and you want to do some things on a firmware.. is that possible? |

Ya think? sinisa, even with a really big brain I don’t think 3rd party firmware updates to the MOXF are going to go well. |

If you mean modifying the MOXF OS, of course it’s possible in theory. The hardest part would be extracting the existing OS from the update files and then reverse engineering the OS before you can start making any changes. Good luck, let us know how it goes. |

It’ll also be a copyright infringement.... but don’t let that stop you. ;-) |

i thought maybe yamaha could give us some source code .. or part of it maybe ;) reverse engineering of firmware will be overkill. |

Do MOX/MOXF use ITRON, and µITRON or MontaVista?

As far as I know, of the synths it’s only the XS and XF models that use MontaVista Linux. That usage requires public availability of certain information under GNU General Public License (GPL), as in the link I provided. Since Yamaha hasn’t published a notice that such source code would be provided for the other models, they apparently aren’t obligated to do so. That’s what I meant by “This is as good as it gets”. |

5pinDIN and abdol, thank you for the infos.
xs and xf uses montavista, i dont see the reason the moxf uses something else.

You’re welcome.

The MOX and MOXF incorporate the sound engine of the Motif XS and Motif XF, respectively. Other than that, as you wrote, “hardware is different”. That difference includes the processor, which is something that can directly influence which OS will be used. |
