While waiting to get my MOXF6, I have read through the manuals and also through the MOXF threads. I copied some of the postings and started a Hints & Tips file. There is one area I am unsure about and that is which version of Microsoft windows is better suited to run Cubase AI7. I have several PCs and laptops, one laptop running Windows 8.1 64 bit, a PC with Windows 7 32 bit. Can anyone give their experiences with these two versions and if they changed from one to the other.

Hope this is not too inane a question.

regards

There is no right or wrong here, but in my opinion Windows 7, 64 bit is currently still your best choice. Time to leave 32 bit operating systems behind, especially if you ever decide to purchase a more advanced version of Cubase. Cheers......frank

Hi there.

I’ve used Cubase Elements 7 under both Win7 and Win8 (it wasn’t even 8.1) and it works fine on both.
Your Win7 being x86 indicates that it’s a couple of years old, so one would assume that your Win8 machine would be faster.

Not that that matters much if you don’t intend to use a lot of VSTs… and why would you with a MOXF hooked up to it? ;-)

Hi guys, thanks for your responses. I guessed Win 8 would be the obvious one, having problems with that one at the moment as the manufacturer doesn’t provide a recovery disk. My fault for not making a system backup, I should know better as I worked in IT before I retired, back then it was XP, much simpler.

As suggested, your best choice, and the one most popular with musicians is Windows 7 64 bit. Windows 8 is better than Vista, but it’s not popular with power users, and most studios and composers feel Windows 7 is better. Microsoft is aware that Windows 8 has not received the acclaim for which they had hoped, and the last I heard, they are also skipping a Windows 9 version and going right to 10, which will bring back some of the features of Windows 7. What ‘works’ and what is best are two different things..........frank

While waiting for MOXF6, I decided to install Win 7 64 bit on the PC, (formerly 32 bit version) and will also downgrade my Win 8.1 laptop which has a multitude of problems to Win 7 64 bit. I will see which machine runs faster and then install Cubase AI on the quicker of the two.

A very wise decision! :-)

As an afterthought, is it possible to install Cubase AI on two machines?

Yes and no. You can install it, but your license allows you to use it on one machine only at one time. Transfer your license to a USB dongle and then plug the dongle into whichever machine you wish to use at the time. One license = one machine. If you want to have Cubase on two machines and have two licensed versions, then you would need a second license.

Thanks FrankE. Will try that when the time comes. I’ll probably have my work cut out getting used to the MOXF first, don’t want to try and run before I can walk, same with the Flash memory, I’ll get one but won’t attempt to install any sounds for the time being. Just waiting for the dosh, be about a month.
