I followed the directions on the Yamaha website to see what version firmware is on my new MOFX 8, and it is not producing the message described on the site. I’m not sure I can survive this level of frustration from my new Yamaha. I may have to return it and go back to my easy to program Roland 300NX! After all, playing rock n roll is supposed to be fun - LOL!

You’ve said that you have a MOFX (assumed you meant MOXF), but you’re posting in the Motif XF forum. If you followed directions for checking the firmware of a Motif XF, but have a MOXF, that might explain why you didn’t get expected results.

To check a Motif XF:
Press [UTILITY] to enter the Utility mode, then release the button. Press [UTILITY], [Cursor Up] and [F1] buttons simultaneously. Read the display.

To check a MOXF:
Press the [UTILITY] button. Press the [JOB] button. Read the display.

It’s not clear what keyboard you have. There is no MOFX 8. Did you mean the MOXF8? If so, you should post your question in the MOXF forum. This is the forum for the Motif XF.

EDIT:  Sorry, I was composing while 5pinDIN was posting

Aha mystery solved. Thank you! I didn’t realize there was a difference. I thought MO was just short for motif. Glad I didn’t try to update my firmware! Yikes.  ;)

So, now that I’m looking at updates for the proper instrument, I see the only update on the firmware is from vs. 1.03 to 1.10. Should I update it or hold out for a more significant change, especially considering how electronically challenged I am?

Thanks guys.

You might want to wait until you’re more familiar with your MOXF, but here’s what the update from 1.03 to 1.10 accomplishes:

Main Fixes and Enhancements
V1.03 to V1.10
- Now allows connection to iOS. However, the confirmed operability is for version 7 or later, and is limited to iPad mini retina display models (A1489, A1490, A1491), iPad Air (A1474, A1475, A1476), 4th generation iPad (A1458, A1459, A1460) and iPhone 5siA1453, A1457, A1518, A1528, A1530, A1533j, iPhone 5ciA1507, A1516, A1526, A1529, A1532, A1456j.
*The text in parentheses above indicates the model numbers, and they are listed on the back of the main body of the iPad and iPhone.
- When polyphony is relatively large, the problem that some notes may have been delayed was improved.
- Solved a problem that operation might freeze when an empty waveform is selected and a continued note-on message is received with the XA control set to KeyOffSound in Voice Element Edit.
- Fixed a problem in which arpeggio output, excluding the recording channel, was recorded in Song recording.
- Solved a problem that the part designation of parameter change became Part 1 at all times when operating a knob, when Local Control was set to Off.
- Solved a problem that SysEX messages which were received over a port other than Port 1 were recorded to a Song.
- Solved some other minor problems.

You’re welcome. No problem with posting to the wrong forum, other than information for the different models can vary, which can lead to confusion.
