Steely,

Worrying or being disappointed about a lag of producing good songs is a waste of time and unproductive.

Better making one perfect song than hundreds of less perfect. LOL

I still have not find the right inspiration for making songs since the dead of my brother.  I even sold my TYROS5, because it bores me and just collecting dust. I kept my MOTIFXS8 for later when I find my urge back to create music again. Hopefully soon.

Anyway Steely keep posting songs.

jan, I don’t know that there is such a thing as a “perfect song.”

If you’re having difficulty finding inspiration, it could be writer’s block. Try ‘free composing,’ i.e. working absent a preconceived measure of quality, such as on a smaller scale. Perhaps you’ll stumble across something intriguing and then let your imagination take it from there.

Both the last 2 songs were interesting, especially because of the
build-up of the melody.
It occurs to me that you work with more accessory sounds than others.

Finally had some time yesterday to compose, so I jumped on the chance.

With regards to arranging style, generally, my technique is to embellish the sonic mosaic enough that it has a unique character yet doesn’t deter from the focus of the underlying composition. Of course not everything requires elaboration. Some of the most beautiful compositions require nothing more than one instrument.

I was happy to listen till the end, where it suddenly became more
interesting.
The ‘body’ is a bit boring.
You should hear the masters where they break the monotony:
e.g. Bach: inventions,
e.g. Kit Watkins: Beauty Drifting: The Ground, The Sky.

It’s just a study. I wanted to explore what could be done while restricting the right hand to one position upon the keyboard, hence every new chord having an Ab in the top register (and concluding with a simple arpeggio built on the A chord in first inversion). Naturally I could’ve expanded it, shifted it harmonically or whatever, but that would’ve ruined the intention.

Bach’s inventions were composed with a much different intention and his superfluous use of modes, tonal shifts and the like is in a class by itself. Also, he, like several composers from the baroque, classical and romantic eras, had the exceptional gift of being able to hear the composition in his head and simply write it out on the lead sheets as he went along.

THIS IS A GREAT SONG!
I mean: better than the average.
I dare to compare it to Kit Watkins’ around 1985.
